Eason
Our project with Eason focused on reimagining the Children’s and Teen department. Our goal was to create a space that is not only visually appealing but also accessible and accommodating to all visitors, particularly those with neurodiverse conditions. This redesign aimed to enhance the overall shopping experience by integrating clear navigation and engaging elements tailored to various age groups.
Eason Children’s and Teen Department Redesign
This redesign aimed to enhance the overall shopping experience by integrating clear navigation and engaging elements tailored to various age groups.
Neurodiverse Navigation Solutions
Incorporating neurodiverse-friendly design principles, we utilised colour-coded category headers and ductwork to simplify navigation. Each age category was defined by colours, guiding visitors effortlessly to their desired sections. This visual strategy helps reduce cognitive overload and supports individuals with learning differences or navigational challenges.

Spatial Configuration
To ensure the department is welcoming to everyone, including those with physical disabilities or sensory sensitivities, we designed wider aisles. This not only facilitates movement and accessibility but also contributes to a less crowded and more calming shopping environment, crucial for visitors who may feel overwhelmed in tight, busy spaces.
Aesthetic and Functional Design
Our design carefully balanced engaging visuals with a soothing ambiance to cater to neurodiverse shoppers. By selecting calming colour palettes and streamlined decor, the space remains attractive without being sensory overwhelming, providing a pleasant environment for all visitors, especially those susceptible to sensory stimulation.
Integrated Store Theatre
The store theatre was creatively integrated into the overall wayfinding strategy, making use of thematic elements and interactive displays that not only capture the imagination but also serve as intuitive guides through the store. This approach ensures that the department is not only a place to shop but a space to experience and explore, making navigation a part of the store adventure.
Comprehensive Neurodiverse-Friendly Features
Our comprehensive approach to the Eason redesign considered every aspect of neurodiversity. From the initial concept development through to detailed implementation, each design decision was made with cognitive accessibility in mind. The store features sensory-friendly materials, interactive learning spots, and clear, easy-to-read signage, all designed to support individuals with diverse neurological needs, ensuring a positive and inclusive shopping experience.
